Ask About Your Gutters

Tell us what the gutters are doing and we will get back to you to set up a visit.

What the work involves

A roof is only half the job without good gutters

Every inch of rain that lands on your roof has to go somewhere. Gutters decide where. When they work, you never think about them. When they do not, water ends up against the house, on the steps, and down along the foundation.

Gutter work starts with a look at how water actually moves off your roof. We check the pitch of each run, how the gutters are fastened to the fascia, whether the seams and end caps are tight, and where every downspout lets out. A gutter can look fine from the driveway and still hold standing water in the middle of a run.

From there we either fix what is there or install new gutters, setting a steady pitch toward the downspouts and placing those downspouts where the water can run off safely, away from walkways and the foundation. If we are replacing your roof at the same time, we tie the two together so the drip edge, shingles and gutters work as one system.

What failing gutters look like

Most gutter problems announce themselves during a heavy rain. Walk around the house the next time it pours and look for any of these.

  1. Water spilling over the edge

If rain sheets over the front of the gutter instead of running to the downspout, the pitch is off or something is blocking the flow.

  2. Sagging or pulling away

A gutter that dips or leans out from the fascia has loose fasteners, and it usually gets worse each storm.

  3. Drips at seams and corners

Leaking joints send water exactly where you do not want it, down the siding and onto the trim.

  4. Stains, rot or peeling paint

Dark streaks on siding, soft fascia boards or peeling paint under the eaves often trace back to gutters that are not doing their job.

  5. Puddles by the foundation

Downspouts that empty right next to the house can leave water pooling where it can find its way into a basement.

"Greenawalt was recommended to us through a family member. I’m so happy we hired them to do our roof and gutters. The communication was great. Everyone we came in contact with was so nice. The crew that came to do the work did a great job and they cleaned up after themselves very well. This is the best experience we have had hiring someone to work on our home."

FAQ

Gutter questions

Have another one? Call any hour and ask.

Can my gutters be repaired, or do they need replacing?

Often a sagging run or a leaking seam can be fixed. If the gutters are failing in several places, new ones usually make more sense. We show you what we find so you can decide.

Can you do gutters along with a new roof?

Yes. Many homeowners have us handle roof and gutters together so everything ties in cleanly at the edge.

Where should my downspouts go?

Somewhere the water can run off safely, away from the foundation, walkways and steps. We look at the yard and place them with that in mind.

Is the estimate free?

Yes. We come out, take a look, and give you a free estimate on the work you need.
